"So yeah, here's another isekai, where an overpowered protagonist stumbles into a world with an unsettling appearance. I won't belabor the plot of the novel, since if you've read one, you've read them all. Nothing too special on that mark. However, if you think this is going to be as character-driven like Overlord, or dark as Goblin Slayer (artwork is pretty similar), or comedic like any of FUNA's works, well you're out of luck. This is pretty much just a set-up to the rest of the series, and when I say "just a set-up," I mean literally. The novel is essentially a collection of short stories focused around Arc (protagonist) slowly learns his powers and involves himself in the cliched far-reaching events, all while trying to remain inconspicuous. Like every other isekai out now.
But, I will say there are two things going for this series that makes me recommend it. Firstly, the writing itself is conscise and flowing, rarely stopping to bother with tangents or trying to over-communicate something. If you need to know, you'll be told. Adding in some nice editing, and you've got a package that serves as an excellent foray for anyone either new to the light novel world, or someone who wants an easy read between other novels. Though I may not be a fan of the story, the author is certainly someone with talent. (also, thank you editors for doing your job for once)
Secondly, we have our protagonist Arc. Like with the great Ainz-sama (SASUGA!), he is someone drawn into a body that seems to be losing its humanity, which has an impact on their mental state. Arc serves as an interesting inverse, as he comes off as very nonchalant and desensitzed, even before he begins worrying about his body's impact. There are certainly hints that he may be going down a darker road in the future, but for now, it remains at just that. Suffice it to say, his transformation actually serves as an impetus for Arc to make an important decision at the end of the novel, where other characters (like Diablo from "How Not To Summon a Demon Lord") just pass it off.
In short, as I've rambled on way too long, it's a novel that shows promise, with an author and protagonist worth following, but please keep in mind that volume 1 by itself serves as little more than an introduction to this new world, rather than any concrete, complete story within it."

- Arc wakes up one morning on top of a grassy hill as his main character in a popular massive online RPG - his maximum level PC with skills not being limited to the current active class. In other words, he is massively overpowered. Two things limit his power though. One he appears to be a careful naive teenager exploring a world very unlike modern Japan. He knows it and tries to keep a low profile. Two, he bought a skeleton skin for his character, explaining it as a curse and using it as the drive for his character to wander around. At least he is wearing full plate and nobody can actually see his face or body. What follows are Arc's first steps in a new world, a rather dark one with racism, slavery and a couple of attempted rape scenes (all disrupted before proceeding beyond the ripping clothes away).
Most of the story is from Arc's perspective, but there are occasional short switches to other characters, mostly the villains. It shows more is going on then meets the eye. Arc might not be in the overarching story yet, things are likely to change. For now it is mostly a slice-of-life type of story of typical length for a light novel.
Characters appear to deviate from the standard templates, but except for Arc we do not stick to other characters long enough to know for sure. I like the main character, and feel his personality helps explaining why he does not just steamroll over the opposition. He keeps his distance from others, but that is because of his curse. When interacting, he is polite, kind and helpful. He also does not immediately rush into a fight except when to directly help others. Still, it might not be for everybody. There are no game mechanical elements despite the cause of Arc's trip.
Still, the MCs power is also the potential weakness of the story. It lacks the light hearted entertainment of similar novels. It makes me a bit worried about future novels. The main character Arc, is transported into a version of his game world, with skills and equipment intact, with the one exception he's now skeletal as opposed to humanoid. He doesn't know much about the people and the politics of this new land. He's constantly stumbling into situations where his actions have much longer term consequences.
By the end of this volume, Arc has saved the daughter of a Duke and then freed a number of slaves. He's acquired a cute mascot, and is headed to an elven community to meet their leader. It's an easy read, neither too simple nor deep and complex. There is some violence directed at sentient creatures, and so can't recommend to pre-teens. The world building is good enough to look forward to a volume 2. - Much like Overlord we have a story of a gamer that seemingly ends up in another world in which he is portraying as his game character, yet he is actually not in his game's world. That was one of the first interesting twists is that even though the MC is literally his game character but ending up in an entirely different fantasy world that he has to try and figure out in order to survive and find a way home. Also, unlike with Overlord's Ainz who despite being undead still retains much of his human self especially his emotions that are forcibly calmed due to his undead status when he gets excited yet with Arc he acts more like an emotionless machine with only his human intelligence remaining. Can't wait to see what else this armored skeleton stumbles into while trying to remain inconspicuous. Also, loved Ariane's reaction to Arc looting the dead with such disdain and makes me wonder how else his looting affects others.
